What kind of society have we turned into, that we have to have DVD players in the car for the children?

I grew up before there were video players, DVD players, and computers, what are we doing to our children? Besides making them mass killers, and mentally deficient in life?
Parents need to keep their children occupied, for goodness sake they don’t want to have talk to their own children. And then they wonder why their kids are social misfits.
Total Idiot Parents!!!!!

    A very liberal one

  2. Gagan B Says:

a very very technological? society? But I agree with you. Kids like me need to get away from tv once and a while.

  3. RyGuru Says:

a society which thrives of media and constant visual stimulation. i would know, Im subject to it as well.

Lazy, the electronic babysitter works everytime, almost.

  5. hillcr222 Says:

So mass killings are all because of technology???

Try the parents. That’s what the issues are these days. Not the technology.

I agree its sad and even though i am only 13 i am on my mission to save the planet and with the mentally defficient ppl aren’t going to help and all the adds about cars makes the kids think they are good and more fun RIDE A BIKE OR WALK!!!

I agree. My children are not having TVs in their rooms, they are not having mobile phones until they are old enough to drive themselves somewhere, they will not be chatting in chatrooms (I know what goes on in there!), and the computer will be in a public room. There is actually research on why these things can be harmful to children in terms of development, health, sleep patterns, materialism, and social skills.

I totally agree with you. I think the only way I would use one in the car is if we were going on a very, very long vacation and then it would be limited. Even at that I’m still not sure. It’s sad what things have come to.

Children with very very short attention spans. it’s easier to stick a kid in front of the t.v. than to actually parent them and be involved. It’s sad…

We’re making them very lazy, the parents are as well, when they decide to take the time in the car and have a fun ride with the children vs turning on a dvd so they can tune out their own kids act like they’re not there

The only electronics in my car is the radio and I play the music I like, no kids stuff. If the kid gets bored while driving I expect him to contemplate his existence, enjoy the scenery, or go to sleep, or we can chat if we’re in the mood. I value the simple things in life, backpacking, reading books, telling stories and writing. I try to keep my kid away from TV and movies, and he’s too young for computers, and we don’t own any video games. I don’t expect him to grow up to be a rocket scientist, I just think this is the best way to live.

I really dont know. Im with you. I never had any dvd player or computers around when i was a kid. It seems that as a society we are babying the generations to come. We are making every kid too spoiled and they have no clue on how the world really is. Hopefully it will change however it is not the kids fault, its the parents :/

  13. Java Says:

We counted things like cows. So did my kids and they loved it. People have just decided that they don’t need to think about what’s important because they let the mass marketers do it for them.

  14. Cabernet Says:

well you have to consider that kids are in the car a lot more than they used to be… so it’s just as bad for them to be strapped to car seats and in seat belts, at least if they’re watching something educational they get some benefit.

  15. Shenj Girl Says:

Hey, the DVD thing was brilliant…parents just don’t discipline nowadays.

  16. Dyo G Says:

i’m totally agree with you i come from a place were kids since very little learn how to think and they go smart and of course is not putting a dvd player in the car to watch kids are very smart from were i come from and there are not to many electronics around them……… this is affecting the society i’m agree with you..

My kids will be 18 in July, and the only time they watched movies in the car was when we were traveling on a long trip.

When I drove the kids around before they got their drivers licenses, I did not allow radio, ipods, or cell phone use. The time we spent in the car was when my kids talked the most to me. I guess it had to do with being a captive audience, lol.

All though hillcr22 got nothing but thumbs down i agree with her . Parents don’t take time out for there kids or even know how to relate with there kids . They pop a movie in just to keep the kid occupied wile they take care of business whether it be taking care of bills cleaning or just getting time out for them self .all legit excuses for doing that because life is hard and there is no time for anything anymore . Just keeping your head above water is a job itself. But the days when family’s mom and pop would all sit down and watch a scary movie with the kids are over . Now the kids are watching them them self with no response from mom and pop thinking these things happening are normal and happens every day in life . They are not learning any true feelings just what they learn on the tube
